The International Skiing History Association (ISHA) and the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame presents The Ishpeming International Ski Film Festival as a key feature of Skiing Heritage Week.<\/p>\n
The free film showings will take place Tuesday, April 10 through Friday, April 12 from 4-10 p.m. nightly at the Cascade Theatre in Cascade Village.<\/p>\n
The highlight of the film festival is the induction of five classic films into the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame\u2019s \u201cSnow 100.\u201d These films include \u201cSki Champs: the Aspen 1950 FIS\u201d, \u201cThe Mobius Flip\u201d, \u201cFire on the Mountain\u201d\u2014the story of the 10th Mountain Division, \u201cThe Secret Race\u201d and \u201cThe Times of Our Lives: 1989 World Alpine Ski Championships.\u201d The award ceremony will take place Wednesday, April 11 at 8 p.m. in the Cascade Theatre. The producers will be awarded a \u201cJerry,\u201d a special honor presented in memory of Jerry Simon. All showings at the Cascade Theatre are open to the public, free of charge. <\/p>\n
Additionally, on Friday evening at The Arrabelle in Lionshead, ISHA will present its annual awards to ski writers and filmmakers. The films will be screened during the week at the Cascade Theatre; they include: \u201cVail: The Rise of America\u2019s Iconic Ski Resort\u201d (produced and directed by Roger Brown) and \u201cPassion For Snow\u2014The Dartmouth Ski Legacy Story\u201d (produced by Steve Waterhouse, Lisa Densmore and Rick Moulton). <\/p>\n
There will also be a special screening of three historical films. These include, \u201cThe Killy Challenge Race\u201d which was the precursor of all the pro tours that followed, John Kirschner\u2019s \u201cCall of the Mountains\u201d detailing 50 years of Vail\u2019s Ski & Snowboard School, and Chuck Boone\u2019s \u201cWinter Equinox\u201d a free-wheeling look at professional freestyle skiing in its formative years. Skiing Heritage Week is a week-long gathering full of skiing, snowboarding, parties and entertainment, reunions with old and new friends, film viewings and more.
