{"id":36480,"date":"2020-12-26T15:00:24","date_gmt":"2020-12-26T15:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vailvalleypartnership.com\/?p=36480"},"modified":"2020-12-25T01:34:03","modified_gmt":"2020-12-25T01:34:03","slug":"open-bar-a-diary-entry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vailvalleypartnership.com\/2020\/12\/open-bar-a-diary-entry\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Bar:  A Diary Entry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Diary,<\/p>\n<p>2020 was so mean to me.\u00a0 I mean, like, so mean.\u00a0 You should totally have seen it.\u00a0 What have I ever done to 2020?\u00a0 I just get so frustrated with 2020\u2019s selfish attitude.\u00a0 It\u2019s, like, for sure abuse what 2020 has been doing.\u00a0 Came in promising all sorts of great stuff and then that just turned out to be a bigger lie than that big liar you-know-who could ever tell. \u00a0It\u2019s just so unfair!\u00a0 I have big dreams, to like maybe one day own an ice cream parlor or a research laboratory or maybe a castle or something like that.\u00a0 You know, like super important big dreams.\u00a0 But 2020 doesn\u2019t care; 2020 is just so focused on 2020 that there\u2019s no room for anything or anyone else.\u00a0 I just want to scream!<\/p>\n<p>The thing is that, and you have to swear not to say anything, I kinda sorta like 2020 a lot.\u00a0 Yes, there were like deaths and protests and like so many sweatpants. \u00a0Super gross. \u00a0But, 2020 has been kinda alright too.\u00a0 I got like mega good at making memes that revealed deep truths but were done so ironically that I forgot whether I was being serious or not.\u00a0 And spending basically every single second with my family has been pretty cool.\u00a0 I guess.\u00a0 Whatever.\u00a0 We have played Clue so many times that I swear that I am going to turn into Dr. Orchid.\u00a0 Literally.<\/p>\n<p>And I have become so much more aware of, like, the things going on around me.\u00a0 Did you know that there are people out there that don\u2019t have a smartphone? Like, what do they do? This year showed me that I have a much better life than I thought I did.\u00a0 I used to, like, complain about the quality of the organic carrots at the market, then I was like, some people don\u2019t even get organic produce! So, I mellowed out about that.\u00a0 I am not chill about racism though.\u00a0 I marched.\u00a0 It was a thing.\u00a0 2020 is hopefully the last time we\u2019re gonna have to do that.\u00a0 But, considering that\u2019s what my Grandma said when she was my age, I\u2019m not holding my breath.\u00a0 Ugh.<\/p>\n<p>I get really nervous about the future.\u00a0 Real talk.\u00a0 2020 showed me that I can\u2019t always, like, assume that things are going to be fine. \u00a0I\u2019ve never seen my parents so scared.\u00a0 Not even when we went on that crazy rope swing catapult thing that one time on vacation.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure that I heard my Dad crying sometimes at night.\u00a0 That really shakes a person, you know?\u00a0 It makes me not take things so much for granted and want to, like apply, myself, so that I can, like, support myself if things get bad again.<\/p>\n<p>2020 totally forced me to spend so much time alone, it was pretty creepy.\u00a0 Sometimes I would put my phone down and just, like, think.\u00a0 So weird.\u00a0 I realized that I have some like kinda great ideas, but have been too scared to like, put myself out there like that.\u00a0 Like maybe I have some things that I could improve, or work on, you know?\u00a0 But, I don\u2019t want to admit that.\u00a0 I mean, sending Tik Toks to millions is one thing, but actually, like, letting people know my thoughts?\u00a0 Argh, no way.<\/p>\n<p>Oh man, I am just so glad that nobody is going to read this.<\/p>\n<p><em>T.J.
