The Secretary of State\u2019s office has received numerous reports of third parties sending deceptive and misleading solicitations to Colorado businesses. The Colorado Secretary of State maintains an easy-to-use online filing system for businesses. Use of a third party to complete filings is not required.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u201cDuring this time when many small businesses are struggling, third parties have been sending out solicitations asking for unnecessary fees to file business reports with our office,\u201d said Secretary\u00a0Griswold. \u201cThe Colorado Secretary of State\u2019s office takes pride in having an easy-to-use and affordable business filing system, which is why we are alerting business owners about these dubious solicitations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Versions of these solicitations ask businesses to pay a fee of $200 to file their yearly periodic report with the Secretary of State\u2019s office.\u00a0 It is important for businesses to know that their yearly periodic report can be filed online at the Secretary of State\u2019s website for only $10. \u00a0Colorado continues to be one of the lowest business filing fee states in the nation.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Other misleading solicitations may:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Appear similar to a government form.<\/li>\n<li>Cite specific Colorado statutes.<\/li>\n<li>Contain your business entity\u2019s actual business ID number and date of formation, as reflected in the Secretary of State\u2019s business records.<\/li>\n<li>Contain a \u201cCustomer ID Number\u201d that does not match a number given to you by a State or Federal Agency.<\/li>\n<li>Contain a warning to make sure that the form\u2019s instructions are followed exactly when completing the form.<\/li>\n<li>Require a fee.<\/li>\n<li>Contain a due date for your response.<\/li>\n<li>Offer to file a \u201cStatement Curing Delinquency\u201d or \u201cPeriodic Report\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>Please be advised that the Colorado Secretary of State\u2019s office does not send these solicitations.
