The COVID-19 pandemic has changed every aspect of life in the Vail Valley but it has also demonstrated the strength and resilience of the residents and businesses alike. We don\u2019t know what the future holds but we can certainly use the lessons learned to help navigate the upcoming months and years.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m., Vail Symposium and Vail Valley Partnership are presenting \u201cThe State of the Valley,\u201d a virtual panel discussion via Zoom that will explore the latest hot issues in Eagle County including health care, education, government issues and the upcoming ski season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this collaboration, the VVP and the Vail Symposium offer the public an opportunity to hear from the leaders of several of the most influential organizations in our community,\u201d said Vail Symposium program manager Claire Noble. \u201cThe four organizations these leaders represent touch the lives of every resident in our valley. With a 56-bed hospital, level III trauma center, urgent care clinics, cancer center, cardiovascular services, surgery, childbirth, physical therapy, internal medicine, endocrinology and more, Vail Health is the world\u2019s most modern mountain health care system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beth Howard <\/strong>is the Chief Operating Officer of Vail Mountain. She began her career with Vail Resorts in 1985 as a college intern at Beaver Creek Resort, sparking a 35-year career with the company. Howard has been on the operational side of the ski industry her entire career, working her way through the ranks of Food &amp; Beverage and eventually becoming the Vice President of Food &amp; Beverage and Clubs where she had operational oversight of mountain dining across all of the Company\u2019s resorts, including more than 100 restaurants and eight private clubs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Philip Qualman <\/strong>is in his second year as Superintendent of Eagle County Schools. Before working in this capacity, he served as Assistant Superintendent for 3.5 years and Principal of Battle Mountain High School for six years. Before taking the helm as Principal, he was an Assistant Principal and Social Studies teacher. Eight years of teaching and three years as President of a local Teacher\u2019s Association help him appreciate the challenges and rewards of classroom teachers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jeff Shroll <\/strong>is the Eagle County Manager and has been with the County for the past two and a half years. Prior to working with Eagle County, Shroll was with the Town of Gypsum for 24.5 years as the Town Manager. As a resident in the valley since 1994, Jeff has worked with many private and public partners over that expanded period of time.
