{"id":27503,"date":"2019-06-07T19:50:19","date_gmt":"2019-06-07T19:50:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vailvalleypartnership.com\/?p=27503"},"modified":"2019-06-07T19:50:19","modified_gmt":"2019-06-07T19:50:19","slug":"business-community-opposes-tariffs-on-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vailvalleypartnership.com\/2019\/06\/business-community-opposes-tariffs-on-mexico\/","title":{"rendered":"Business Community Opposes Tariffs on Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<div class=\"holder\">\n<div class=\"content-section content-section-title\"><strong><em>Imposing unilateral tariffs on Mexico harms businesses and consumers while jeopardizing Congressional approval of USMCA<\/em><\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"content-section\">\n<article class=\"node-155986 node node-document view-mode-full clearfix\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p><strong>WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong> \u2014 Today, 140\u00a0business and agriculture associations representing millions of employers across the country issued the following joint statement ahead of the administration&#8217;s looming June 10 deadline to impose a 5% tariff on all goods imported from Mexico:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tariff-free trade in North America is a cornerstone of U.S. economic growth, supporting over 12 million American jobs and lowering prices for American consumers. The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) is a considerable achievement that builds on these benefits by bringing North American trade into the 21st century with provisions that boost digital trade, enhance intellectual property protections, improve trade facilitation and help small businesses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We, the undersigned associations, have committed to work with the Administration and both sides of the aisle in Congress to support congressional passage of USMCA. We are supportive of the constructive discussions members of the Administration have had with Members of Congress. But imposing unilateral tariffs on Mexico jeopardizes a successful bipartisan vote on USMCA and approval of the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tariffs on Mexican imports would harm U.S. consumers, workers, farmers and businesses of all sizes across all sectors, making us less competitive and undermining efforts to negotiate strong trade deals in the future. We oppose unilateral tariffs and any subsequent retaliation.
