Once upon a time\u2026..I went to Vail to ski,<\/strong><\/p>\n

I instantly adored the place, and knew it was for me!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Home I went – but not for long – and barely had unpacked,<\/strong><\/p>\n

When I took the plunge and bought a place, so I always could go back.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My new ski place was really grand, and the mountains are a treat!<\/strong><\/p>\n

But it\u2019s quite the understatement to say that Vail is cheap!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

And I knew then what I must do: to make a weighty dent<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the mortgage and expenses, it would be wise to rent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I opened up my condo to renters far and near<\/strong><\/p>\n

And raked in rental income for six or seven years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But something else was happening\u2026(and here was my mistake)<\/strong><\/p>\n

With all the people traipsing through, my place did not look great.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ski boots, poles, off-season mud, and partiers galore<\/strong><\/p>\n

Enjoyed my little condo, but wreaked havoc on my floor!<\/strong><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t really think to mind \u2013 it\u2019s flooring<\/em>after all-<\/strong><\/p>\n

Not nearly quite as noticed as the furniture or walls.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s what I thought<\/em>\u2013 but hadn\u2019t been to see it in a while<\/strong><\/p>\n

And did not fully understand the impact to the tile.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I kept it clean, made small repairs, and upgraded the doors,<\/strong><\/p>\n

But never had professionals routinely clean the floors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sure, I had them swept and mopped, <\/strong><\/p>\n

And got that \u201cjust cleaned\u201d feeling,<\/strong><\/p>\n

But over time, the grout and tile needs a good, deep clean and sealing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As I ignored this crucial task, the years of grit and stains<\/strong><\/p>\n

Accumulated on the floors that I had not maintained.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In hindsight now I realize the advice I should have heeded,<\/strong><\/p>\n

When the LQA inspectors tried to tell me what was needed!<\/strong><\/p>\n

The consequence I suffered, you may have figured out?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If not\u2026. I will proceed with what this story\u2019s all about:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

One day I took time off again to travel back to Vail,<\/strong><\/p>\n

And skiing just ahead of me while on my favorite trail,<\/strong><\/p>\n

The most amazing gal I\u2019d ever seen in my whole life,<\/strong><\/p>\n

And when I got to know her, knew one day she\u2019d be my wife.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We skied together, had some drinks, took in a show or two,<\/strong><\/p>\n

And time we spent and fun we had confirmed what my heart knew:<\/strong><\/p>\n

That I had found my person, my other half, my bride,<\/strong><\/p>\n

And from then on she\u2019d be with me, forever by my side.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And soon enough I asked her to come over to my home<\/strong><\/p>\n

And plan our lives to be together, and never be alone.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

She arrived in early evening, and knocked upon the door,<\/strong><\/p>\n

I opened it; she stepped upon the entry tile floor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In that one moment, all would change, as did her gorgeous smile<\/strong><\/p>\n

Which faded as her eyes dropped down and landed on my tile.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I saw her take it in, and noticed as she shuddered,<\/strong><\/p>\n

And when she finally spoke, it was an angry stutter:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cUgh! This is how you treat your place?!\u00a0 That\u2019s awful! Don\u2019t you know<\/strong><\/p>\n

That I cannot abide these floors?\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry I must go.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

With a wistful look she turned around, and left right there and then,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since that bleak day, I never saw or heard from her again.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

So, to all you condo owners: this melancholy tale<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is a lesson for you all to learn from me where I have failed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My soulmate\u2019s gone, and I feel like my heart has been ripped out,<\/strong><\/p>\n

So the moral is: For goodness sakes! Clean your tile and your grout!<\/strong><\/p>\n
